An electric standing desk is a daily-use piece of furniture, so the small details decide whether you love it or regret it. These are the points worth checking before you order.
Look at the frame first. Dual-motor frames lift heavier loads and tend to be more stable and quieter than single-motor ones, and they cost more. Check the rated weight capacity (many desks are rated for roughly 100 kg or about 220 lb) and make sure it comfortably covers your monitors, computer and accessories. A wider, sturdier frame wobbles less at standing height.
The desk must reach the right height for you both seated and standing. A common rule is that your elbows should be at about 90 degrees with the keyboard at elbow height. Many desks range from about 62 to 127 cm (24 to 50 in). If you are very tall or short, check the minimum and maximum heights on the spec sheet instead of assuming.
A top of at least 120 x 60 cm suits a laptop and one monitor. For two monitors or a lot of equipment, look at 140 to 160 cm wide and 70 to 80 cm deep. Solid wood and bamboo look good but are heavier; laminate and MDF are cheaper and lighter. Check the edge finish and whether the top is sold separately from the frame.
Memory presets let you jump between your sitting and standing heights with one tap. An anti-collision feature stops the desk if it meets an obstacle, which is useful if you have children, pets or a chair under the desk. Check the lifting speed and the noise level if you work in a shared room.
Most ergonomics guidance suggests changing posture regularly rather than standing all day. An anti-fatigue mat and a monitor at eye level help. If you share the desk, memory presets for several users are worth having.
Check the warranty (frame and motor warranties often differ), the assembly time and tools, delivery and return costs, and whether the desk fits your floor space and cable layout. Make sure there is a power outlet within reach of the desk at its maximum height, and compare the final price including shipping rather than the headline discount.
